Look for me at #sqlsat158 and #sqlsat126

The next two weeks are pretty exciting for me. There is so much going on.

Today (Monday) I’m serving my civic obligation by participating in jury duty. I’m praying that I don’t get seated on a jury because I have too much coming up in the next two weeks.

On Friday, I depart for SQL Saturday 126 in Indianapolis, where I will be doing my first presentation of “Seven SQL Agent Jobs You Should Be Running.” Doing a new session for the first time is pretty exciting and terrifying at the same time. Getting in front of a room full of strangers is one thing, but giving a demo scares the bejeezus out of me, and this one is almost all demo. If I want to grow as a speaker, I need to overcome that fear.

Next Monday and Tuesday, I’m in ITIL training. We’re doing some major organization changes, and it has come on down from high that everyone within our IT and ASP (my group) groups need to be ITIL certified. I’m actually a firm believer in ITIL processes and appreciate just how much this should help us as an organization.

Next Friday, I leave for the Big Apple. I’m taking the train from Boston to New York City to present at SQL Saturday 158 where I’ll be presenting my Seven SQL Agent Jobs session again. But before that, I’m having dinner on Friday night with mentor, friend, and fellow foodie Brent Ozar. The last time I got to break bread with Brent was at Rick Bayless’ Frontera Grill in Chicago.

A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from one of the organizers asking me if I’d give a second session in NYC. I was thrilled. Keep in mind this event has an incredible talent pool, such as Brent, Kevin Kline, and Brian Knight. And they asked me to give a second session. I’m a total second stringer, so I was pretty flattered. My second session that day is “How Not to be a Cranky DBA.” That one is one of my favorites to do.

So yeah, I have a lot going on. I’ll see you in Indianapolis or New York City!
